Our
VISION
Erasure of the racial attainment gap and the liberation of racialized medical and health professionals in post-graduate medical education.
Erasure of the racial attainment gap and the liberation of racialized medical and health professionals in post-graduate medical education.
We are a collaborative of Black, Indigenous and Racialized clinicians, scholars, legal professionals and community members working together to disrupt the existing process of assessment in post graduate medical education that perpetuates racial differential attainment. We support the excellence of Black, Indigenous, and racialized learners by applying critical scholarship to the collection, stewardship, and application of datasets that inform national educational policy.
Capitalism is one of the most powerful forces of oppression that has racialized human beings. Today, race-based data is currency. Data tells the stories of the communities measured. The wealth of our heritage, histories, and cultures are accrued as capital, spent by our institutions to fein meaningful change in educational policy. In academic medicine, a new economy exists, centered on the lived experiences of racialized people. Narratives and intersectional identities are converted into simplistic labels, interpreted as numerical data. Race-based data has been touted as a gateway to racial salvation, but who possesses the keys to our freedom? If stories are data fully embodied by racialized people, who owns our collective soul? Racialized peoples should define how race-based data is used. We are committed to the formation of a racialized-led, pan-Canadian, collaborative space to foster the creation and translation of knowledge providing practical solutions for:
Tracking racial differentials in medical postgraduate and career outcomes
Reporting and structured discipline for experiences of racism
Quality improvement for our clinical training and work environments
We were thrilled that one of our co-Directors was recently interviewed by Dr. Ruth Chen on the MacPFD Game Changers Podcast. Click the link to hear more about her approach to mentorship and support for racialized medical learners!
